Have you ever seen a GARLOW in Chicago??

Back in the 1920’s when most of the North Side bungalow homes were being
built, many of the blue collar workers could not afford the typical brick style
homes. A solution to this problem was the construction of a smaller frame
version of a bungalow that was located at the far backend of the lot, usually where the garage was located. The concept was to offer a more affordable home with the ability to build a larger home in the front once the owner could afford to do so. Many of these homes still exist because the owners never did build their larger homes. Hence the name, GARage bungaLOW. There are hundreds of these properties on the North Side, some with beautiful gardens and trees. We have all seen these homes, and now you know why they exist.
